Multi-Currency

Set up multi-currency support for international transactions.

Use multi-currency when you invoice customers or receive bills in a currency other than your base currency (for example USD invoices from a ZAR organisation).

Organisation currency

Each organisation has a Default currency (Settings → General). All reports are in this currency.

Contact currency

Give a contact a default currency (Contacts → Bookkeeping). New invoices, quotes and bills for that contact start in that currency; you can change it on the document.

Exchange rates

Add rates under Tax → Currencies → New Exchange Rate. Anchor uses the most recent rate on or before each document's date and does not fetch rates for you. See Currencies.

Foreign-currency bank accounts

A bank account can be in a foreign currency; its statement lines are converted to base currency when you categorise or match them. See Banking.

Exchange differences

  • Realised: when a foreign-currency invoice or bill is paid at a different rate from the one it was posted at, Anchor posts the difference as an exchange gain or loss.
  • Unrealised: Tax → Currencies shows what open foreign-currency invoices and bills would gain or lose at the latest rate. This is a view only; nothing is posted.

API and MCP

Exchange rates are stored with six decimal places (1.350000 is sent as 1350000). Journal lines carry currencyCode and exchangeRate.
