Cash Sales
Record over-the-counter sales that are paid on the spot, with no invoice and nothing owed.
Use Sales → Cash Sales for a till or counter sale, a market stall, or a service paid for on the spot. A cash sale records the sale and the money received in one step, so nothing sits in Accounts Receivable.
If the customer pays later, create an invoice instead.
Record a cash sale
- On Sales → Cash Sales, click New cash sale.
- Under Sale Details, choose the Customer, an optional Reference (for example a till slip number), the Date and the Currency.
- Under What was sold, add lines with the item or description, quantity, price, account and VAT. Picking a catalogue item fills its price and income account.
- Under Payment, choose Paid into: the bank or cash account the money landed in.
- Add optional Notes and save. The sale is saved as a Draft with a number such as
SR-00001(see Document numbering).
Post it
Open the draft and click Post. Posting:
- marks the sale Paid,
- posts debit the Paid into account, credit income (per line) and Output VAT,
- reduces stock for lines with a stock catalogue item.
Only drafts can be edited, and you cannot undo a post. The cash sale page has no void button yet: to reverse a posted cash sale, void it through an AI assistant connected to Anchor (MCP void_sales_receipt). A voided sale shows as Cancelled.
Posting already puts the money in the Paid into account. When the deposit shows on your bank statement, use ⋯ → Find & match on the bank line to link it to the cash sale's entry rather than categorising it again.
