Recurring Journals

Manual journal entries that post themselves on a schedule, such as a monthly rent allocation or a fixed management fee.

Use Accounting → Recurring Journals for an adjustment you would otherwise re-enter every period with the same accounts and amounts. For a repeating invoice, bill or expense use Recurring invoices, bills and expenses instead.

Create a recurring journal

  1. On Accounting → Recurring Journals, click New recurring journal.
  2. Under Template Details, enter a Name (for example Monthly depreciation), choose the Frequency, a Start Date and, optionally, an End Date. Leave the end date empty to keep posting until you stop it. Add a Reference if you want one on every entry.
  3. Under Journal lines, add the accounts with a Debit or Credit on each line. Debits must equal credits.
  4. Optionally add Notes for the generated entries, then save.

Frequencies: Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual and Annual.

When entries post

Anchor checks once a day (early morning) and posts a finalized journal entry for every occurrence that is due, catching up if any were missed. The detail page shows the Next entry, Last posted and Posted so far.

To post without waiting, open any recurring journal and click Post entries due now. This posts every due occurrence of every active recurring journal in the organisation, not only the one you have open.

Pause, resume, delete

  • Pause stops posting until you click Resume.
  • Delete stops the schedule for good. Entries it already posted stay in your books; cancel them individually under Accounting → Transactions if needed.

The list can be filtered by status (Posting automatically, Paused, Finished) and frequency, searched by name, and sorted by name or next entry date.
