Budgets

Plan income and spending by account for any date range and compare it with what actually happened.

Budgets live under Accounting → Budgets. A budget covers a date range, split into periods, with a planned amount per account.

Create a budget

  1. On Accounting → Budgets, click New Budget.
  2. Under Budget Info, enter a Budget Name (for example FY 2026 Operating Budget), a Start Date and End Date, and a Period Type: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly or Custom.
  3. Under Budget Lines, click Add Line, choose an account and enter its Annual amount (the total for the whole budget). Anchor spreads it evenly across the periods.
  4. To plan an uneven pattern (for example seasonal sales), expand the line and change individual period amounts. The line total updates.
  5. Click Create Budget.

Track a budget

Open a budget to see:

  • Total Budget, Actual Spend, Burn Rate, Days Remaining and Utilization,
  • a Spending Trend chart,
  • a Period Breakdown with Budgeted, Actual and Variance per period.

Actual figures come from finalized entries in your books for the budget's accounts and dates.

Edit or delete

Open the budget and go to Settings to change the name, dates, period type or lines, then Save changes. Changing the period type or dates re-spreads each line's total across the new periods. You can also deactivate a budget you no longer track; the budgets list filters by Active and Inactive. Delete budget under Danger zone removes the budget and its lines permanently.

Budget vs Actual report

Reports → Budget vs Actual compares a chosen budget with your books per account, with Total Budgeted, Total Actual and Variance. See Financial reports.
