Loans
Track money you have borrowed, see how each repayment splits between capital and interest, and post repayments.
Use Accounting → Loans for a bank loan, vehicle or equipment finance, or a loan from a shareholder. Anchor builds a monthly repayment schedule and posts each repayment split between the loan balance and interest.
Create a loan
- On Accounting → Loans, click New loan.
- Under Loan Details, enter a Name (for example Equipment loan), the Loan amount, Interest rate (%) per year, Term (months) and Start Date.
- Under Where the money landed, choose the bank or cash account in Paid into. Repayments are also paid from this account.
- Under Accounts, choose:
- Loan account: the liability account that tracks what you owe,
- Interest account: the expense account for interest charges.
- Click Create loan.
Anchor calculates the Monthly payment and a schedule showing, for each month, the amount Off the loan, the Interest, the Payment and what is Still owed.
Creating a loan does not post the money you received. Record that when it reaches the bank: categorise the deposit on the bank line to the loan account (see Banking).
Record a repayment
Open the loan and click Record this month's payment. Anchor posts the next unrecorded month in the schedule:
| Account | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Loan account | Capital portion | |
| Interest account | Interest portion | |
| Bank (Paid into) | Total payment |
The schedule marks that month Recorded. Repayments are not posted automatically; record each month when the debit order goes through, then match the bank line to that entry rather than categorising it again.
If the loan has no bank account selected, Anchor asks you to choose one before it posts.
