Recurring Invoices, Bills, and Expenses

Automate repeating sales invoices, supplier bills, and expenses on a schedule.

Anchor supports recurring templates for sales invoices, purchase bills, expenses, and (separately) journals — so repeating work does not need re-entry each cycle.

Recurring Invoices (sales)

Navigate to Sales > Recurring to manage recurring invoice templates.

Setting Up

  1. Click New Recurring Invoice
  2. Select the customer
  3. Add line items
  4. Set the frequency (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually)
  5. Set the start date and optionally an end date
  6. Save the template

How It Works

  • Anchor generates a new invoice automatically on each cycle (when scheduled jobs run)
  • Generated invoices appear in your regular invoice list
  • You can pause, edit, or stop a recurring template at any time

Recurring Bills (purchases)

Navigate to Purchases > Recurring Bills for supplier bills that repeat on a schedule (same template engine as invoices, type bill).

Recurring Expenses

Navigate to Purchases > Expenses > Recurring to manage recurring expense templates.

Setting Up

  1. Create a recurring expense template
  2. Set the supplier, amount, category, and frequency
  3. Expenses are generated automatically on schedule

Recurring Journals

Accounting also supports recurring journals (manual GL templates) under Accounting > Recurring journals, processed by a dedicated schedule so they do not double-post with document templates.

Managing Recurring Items

The recurring list shows:

FieldDescription
Template NameDescription of the recurring item
ContactCustomer or supplier
AmountRecurring amount
FrequencyHow often it repeats
Next DateWhen the next item will be generated
StatusActive or Paused

Tips

  • Review generated invoices, bills, and expenses periodically to ensure accuracy
  • Use recurring invoices for retainer clients and subscription-based services
  • Use recurring bills/expenses for rent, subscriptions, and regular supplier payments
  • Automatic generation requires background jobs (e.g. Trigger / maintenance) configured on the server
